Finishing a Long Distance in less than eight hours, taking second in Ironman 70.3 Mallorca, taking fourth in Challenge Mogan-Gran Canaria, a 10th place in the PTO Canadian Open and a 4th place in the Collins Cup… That’s the performances that the 40-year-old Nicola Spirig still managed to deliver in her last year as a pro triathlete. As a pro athlete whatsoever, because last weekend, she retired by running her last professional race: the Greifenseelauf.
And even in that last race, Spirig pulled off an incredible performance, especially given her age and the time that she’s been in this sport, because Spirig broke her PB on the half-marathon running 1:15:14 hour. “Such an emotional day yesterday, running my last professional race at Greifenseelauf”, Spirig stated after the race. “Finishing with a personal best and enjoying an exceptional crowd and atmosphere!! Thank you to everyone, couldn‘t have thought of a better way to finish.”
