France’s Audrey Tanguy is renowned for her trail-running prowess as a two-time winner of the UTMB TDS 120 km trail race, but her first foray onto the roads saw her take an impressive win at today’s Hoka One One Project Carbon X2 100 K.
Through the early stages of the race it was Great Britain’s Carla Molinaro who led the way, ahead of pre-race favorite Camille Herron. Herron would pull out with a hip injury at about the 60 km point, and by the 70 km check point Tanguy, moved from third to the lead.
In the end Tanguy struggled to the line, but managed to hold off American Nicole Monette for the win, finishing in 7:40:36, with Monette less than three-minutes back with her 7:43:18 finish.
Earlier in the day American Jim Walmsley just missed the world record by 11 seconds in the men’s race.
