The PTO has confirmed that Oropesa del Mar will step in as the new host of the Spain T100, after the race was forced to move from its originally announced venue in Valencia. Scheduled for 20 September, the event will still bring the world’s top professionals over the unique 100km format – 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run – but the backdrop has shifted 45 minutes up the coast to Castellón.

From a local perspective, the move is being celebrated. Regional leaders and the Spanish Triathlon Federation have praised the opportunity to showcase Oropesa as an international sports destination, adding another chapter to Spain’s already rich triathlon tradition. For athletes and fans, the guarantee that the race will still happen in Spain, on the same date, is welcome news.

But step back and a broader pattern emerges. The Spain T100 is now the latest in a series of PTO calendar changes. Since the T100 series was launched with the ambition of nine blockbuster events in 2025, several stops have been relocated, postponed, or cancelled outright. While the organization rightly points out that building a new global series is never simple, the constant reshuffling risks undermining credibility and frustrating both professionals and Age Group athletes who plan their seasons around these races.

CEO Sam Renouf was quick to highlight the successes of Singapore, San Francisco, Vancouver and London, which indeed set a high bar in terms of production value and athlete fields. Yet, the turbulence elsewhere is hard to ignore. Consistency is just as important as spectacle, especially for a sport seeking mainstream traction.
