“Stoked with 3rd place at Challenge Shepparton today considering dislocating the toe coming out of the swim and yelling ‘f*ck’ as loud as I could.” Australia’s Steve McKenna didn’t have a great start to his day, but despite a lot of discomfort he biked and ran himself to the last podium spot behind Max Neumann and Josh Amberger..

It wasn’t only the toe that made McKenna’s race extra challenging. Since he hadn’t really tapered for the race and considering how many races he has already done this season, McKenna was happy to have run an impressive 1:12 half-marathon. “Thankfully it’s only going to be one week of forced running rest, then we’re back making plans and chasing more improvements,” McKenna said as he shared his doctor’s advice.
