The Professional Triathletes Organisation will put up $15,000 in prize money, along with media and marketing support, for the Rev3 Triathlon in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA on June 27, 2021.
The half-distance race features a 1.9 km swim in the Chickahominy River followed by a 90 km bike and a 21.1 km run on the Capital Trail. The single transition area will be set up at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Race weekend also includes youth, sprint and Olympic-distance races.
American super-cyclist Andrew Starykowicz and Canadian Ironman champion Angela Naeth are two of the pros who have committed to the race. With the pandemic, athletes might not be able to take part in as many activities this year, but typically Williamsburg is a popular tourist destination as part of the “historic triangle” along with Jameston and Yorktown. The historic Colonial Williamsburg features a “living-history” museum with actors in costume reenact daily life from Colonial times.
Rev3 Williamsburg started in 2013, but in 2019 Ironman hosted Ironman 70.3 Virginia using the same venue. Ironman moved that race to Roanoke, Virginia the following year, renaming the race to Ironman 70.3 Virginia’s Blue Ridge. That race was cancelled last year, as was the revamped Rev3 Williamsburg race.
