Following on from the recently confirmed partnership between Super League Triathlon (SLT) and World Triathlon to grow a global Esports World Championship series – the Arena Games Triathlon powered by Zwift – London has been named as one of the three global cities that will host the Arena Games in 2022.
Taking place on Saturday 23 April 2022 at the London Aquatics Centre, in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the UK’s capital city will once again host an Arena Games event. This follows the 2021 event, which saw the return of competitive sport to the capital, where Team GB’s Alex Yee, Georgia Taylor-Brown, Jonny Brownlee and Jess Learmonth took centre stage on home turf, and Learmonth was crowned the winner of the women’s Triple Mix race.
Arena Games Triathlon 2022 locations:
- April 9 2022: Munich, Germany, at Olympia-Schwimmhalle
- April 23 2022: London, UK, at London Aquatics Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
- May 7 2022: Singapore Grand Final
Andy Salmon, British Triathlon CEO, said “The Arena Games was a really exciting addition to the international triathlon calendar in 2021 and we’re looking forward to what the new partnership between Super League and World Triathlon will bring for the sport in 2022. We’re pleased that London has been included as a leg of the Arena Games once again and I know it will be a fantastic event for everyone involved.”
Each event will contribute points to the World Triathlon World Ranking, and the athletes who collect the most points over the course of the series will be awarded the first-ever triathlon Esport World Titles in Singapore.
“We are delighted to welcome three amazing cities such as London, Munich and Singapore to our roster of hosts – we can not think of a better scenario for the 2022 season of the Arena Games Triathlon,” said World Triathlon President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado.
