Andreas Dreitz had a tough middle-season after a motorbike crashed into him during the Ironman World Championship in St. George, but things are finally starting to look up for him. The German athlete finished in 7th place at Ironman 70.3 Zell am See last weekend, making his comeback, and thanks to that performance he received a wildcard entry to the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.
During his crash in St. George Dreitz suffered a fracture of the spinous process in his lumbar spine. After months of recovery, Dreitz returned to racing by noting the fastest bike time at Ironman 70.3 Zell am See.
“I’m very happy that I will be joining the greatest battle again. Of course, I would have liked to qualify in a normal way, but since I had no time left, I’m happy to be given this chance”, he told Tri-mag.de.
Last time Dreitz raced Ironman Hawaii, he wasn’t able to finish, and in 2018, he raced to a 13th position.
