The first week is already done, but the finish line is certainly not yet in sight for Karel Sabbe: the Belgian ultrarunner is back at it again with a new challenge, running a distance of over three thousand kilometers right across New Zealand.
‘3054 kilometers. The length of New Zealand. Here goes,’ Sabbe wrote on his socials last week before starting the first stage. Since then, hundreds of kilometers have already been ticked away, but there are still more than enough kilometers ahead.
Apparently Sabbe is full of energy again after taking it easy in 2024. In 2023, among other things, he was one of the finishers of the Barkley Marathons and broke the world record on the Pacific Crest Trail, running 4300 kilometers in 46 days.
