He made his marathon debut yesterday with a time of 2:11:08, and in doing so, Alex Yee thrilled not only London, but certainly the entire triathlon world. Afterwards, the Olympic Triathlon Champion called it ‘one of the best moments of my life’.

That is quite something, as Yee has won just about every (Short Distance) race there is within the sport of triathlon, culminating in the Paris Olympics (2024). Finishing the London Marathon in fourteenth place – in the stunning 2:11:08 – belongs nicely in that list as far as Yee is concerned. “I didn’t hit my goal (sub 2:10), but I had the best time doing it.”

In an interview with Athletics Weekly, Yee reveals that with eight kilometers to go, he began to pay the price for his effort, but that he feels he managed well. “For me it’s about the journey to be the best person I can be. This year is all about trying to work on my run, so maybe another marathon does work into that.”
