Great Britain’s Emma Pallant used solid performances in the swim and run, coupled with the day’s fastest bike, to take the women’s win at this weekend’s Rev 3 Williamsburg. American Andrew Starykowicz powered away from the rest of the men’s field on the bike and held on to win the men’s race by just 36 seconds.
Pallant solid in all three disciplines
After coming out of the water in third place, 49 seconds behind American swim leader Ali Brauer, Pallant blasted clear of the rest of the women on the bike, hitting T2 with a lead of 2:03 on Brauer, with American Mollie Hebda third off the bike at 4:39 and her countrywoman Lesley Smith over eight-minutes down heading on to the run course.
Smith would use the day’s fastest run split (1:21:49) to move herself to second, but Pallant was never really challenged as she crossed the line in 4:08:15, well ahead of Smith (4:12:41). Amy Sloan (USA) rounded out the podium in 4:16:49.
Starykowicz blasts the bike
American Scott Haeberle led the men out of the water, with Starykowicz third into T1 just six seconds back, Once on the bike, though, Starykowicz blasted away from the rest of the men, riding a 1:56:11 split to hit T2 with a lead of 6:42 on Canadian Jackson Laundry, who was another three minutes up on Brazil’s Fernando Toldi.
Laundry would have the day’s fastest run, 1:13:39, to get himself to just 36 seconds back at the finish line, but Starykowicz held on to get across the line in 3:39:14, with Laundry taking second in 3:39:51. Robbie Deckard rounded out the podium in 3:47:34.
