Norway’s Hans Christian Tungesvik and Italy’s Sandra Mairhofer have crowned themselves World Champion Winter Triathlon. Mairhofer in particular did so with quite a display of power.

At the World Championships Winter Triathlon, participants had to run four kilometers, bike 6.2 kilometers and cross-country ski 6 kilometers twice in a row. Mairhofer did it the fastest with a time of 2:00:09: She took the lead right from the start. More than four minutes behind, Norway’s Ingrid Lorvik took the silver, and another four minutes later, Austria’s Carina Wasle took the bronze.

In the men’s race, the differences were considerably smaller; Tungesvik crowned himself World Champion in a time of 1:40:17, while Czech Marek Rauchfuss was good for silver 1:13 minutes later. Behind Rauchfuss, it was Franco Pesavento who claimed the bronze; the Italian did so just under two minutes behind the winner.
