This weekend, Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum will host the Challenge Family Asia-Pacific Championships over the Long Distance with an international field of professional athletes and over 1,000 age group athletes.
The course includes the world’s longest seawall with its unique eco-environment and spectacular scenery. The Asia Pacific Championship edition in 2024 will see qualification slots for The Championship doubled from top six to top 12 in each age group and also the professional prize purse increased to US$43,000.
Top contenders in the men’s field include Challenge Taiwan champion, Jack Moody (NZL), who is closely pitted against Portugal’s Filipe Azevedo who came second in Taiwan, and Jesper Svensson (SWE). Both Azevedo and Svensson also went head to head in this year’s The Championship two weekends ago where they came seventh and eight respectively.
In the women’s race, Marlene de Boer (NED) will be up against Regan Hollioake (AUS), fresh from her win at Ironman Australia, and New Zealand’s Kate Bevilaqua who got second here in 2023.
Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum will take place on Sunday 2 June with the start gun going off at 6:50am local time.
