Ironman announced today that the city of Aracaju, in the state of Sergipe, Brazil will be the newest host location of an Ironman triathlon. The Itaú BBA Ironman 70.3 Aracaju–Sergipe triathlon will make its debut on November 24, 2024. The new event replaces the race in Maceió and joins four other IM 70.3 events in Brazil including the IM 70.3 Florianópolis, IM 70.3 Rio de Janeiro, IM 70.3 Fortaleza and IM 70.3 São Paulo races.

The Ironman 70.3 Aracaju–Sergipe triathlon will feature a 1.9km (1.2-mile) swim, 90.1km (56-mile) bike, and 21.1km (13.1-mile) run. In a first for all of the IM-branded events in Brazil, the swim course will take place in a river, at the Foz Vaza Barris where the first transition will also be staged. The bike course will consist of three laps on a primarily flat course that finishes at the Orla do Atalaia along the coastline. After exiting transition two, athletes will tackle the run course that traverses the shoreline, allowing spectators to closely cheer on the passing participants before a grand finish line experience.
The capital of the Brazilian state of Sergipe, Aracaju has become the urban, economic, and cultural center of the northeastern part of country.
