2022 is not his year. Alistair Brownlee missed a great opportunity to race the Ironman World Championship in St. George due to illness, then later he missed out on the chance to break the sub-7 hour mark in a Long Distance due to an ankle injury, and now also Kona is off limits, again due to an injury.
“The annus horribilis continues”, Brownlee states. “Unfortunately, I’ve got a stress fracture in my femur and won’t be racing for the rest of the year. The last few months have been more than a little testing. But I’ll do everything I can to work out what the problem is and be back training soon.”
Just when Brownlee seemed to be getting back in shape, as he claimed a last-minute Kona slot with an impressive performance at Ironman Kalmar, things come crashing down again.
