To “continue its tradition of honouring women in the sport of triathlon,” the World Triathlon Women’s Committee has started the application process for the 2021 Award of Excellence (AOE). The AOE presentation is planned for the World Triathlon Congress in Edmonton, Canada in August. The AOE has been awarded every year since 2012.
“National Federations are encouraged to nominate an individual or an organisation that has made a significant and meaningful contribution to women’s involvement at all levels of the sport of triathlon and para triathlon,” World Triathlon announced earlier this week. “Nominations will be evaluated by the AOE selection committee including an external peer review panel that will carefully weigh each nominees’ relevant awards and honours, accomplishments in advancing women in triathlon, and the nominator’s endorsement of the individual or organisation.”
Nomination forms should be submitted to womensaward@triathlon.org by Friday, May 14. You can find the criteria for the award here. Individuals (female or male) eligible can be a triathlete (if elite they must have retired), administrator, coach, technical official, community activist for women in triathlon or involved in media. Institutions eligible for nomination include national federations, continental federations or “organizations that support the development of women and girls in triathlon.”
Nominess should have made outstanding contributions to women and girls participation in the sport, educated or raised awareness about gender issues, recruited and supported women in leadership roles, promoted women and girls in the media or acted as role models for women and girls in triathlon.
Last year’s award winner was Theresa Harper from the Virgin Islands, while in 2019 the award went to British Triathlon’s Head of Participation, Jenny Vincent (pictured above).
